Goal/desire is the starting point for growth and change, and it also gives you the motivation to act; motivation refers to the motivation to complete a specific behavior, which can be divided into internal motivation and external motivation: Intrinsic motivation refers email list to the subjective preference in people's heart, such as hobbies , growth aspirations... and external motivation refers to incentive rewards in the external environment, such as monetary rewards, reputation status...
However, motives are not reliable. Many times, there are motives, but they cannot be effectively changed. Motivations are complex, varied and even conflicting, and it is difficult to maintain high levels of intensity for long periods of time.
A more reasonable approach is to choose actions based on goals. Select a goal, list a set of specific behaviors that help to achieve the goal/desire, and then filter the behavior group to identify the golden behaviors suitable for achieving the goal. There are three criteria for screening behaviors:
This behavior can help you achieve your goals (influence)
you want to do this behavior (motivation)
You can do this behavior (ability)
Capability: Make behavior happen anytime, anywhere
After we have the behavior to achieve our goals, we also have basic motivation. At the same time, human nature determines that we cannot do things that cause us pain for a long time, and behavior change and habit formation are mostly failures because of this.
The key to behavior change/habit formation is sustainability of behavior, and the key to sustainability is simplicity. How to make behavior easier to do?
Improve skills: enhance ability, and for competent things, it is easier to complete;
Access to tools: With the help of efficient tools or external resource support, the difficulty of behavior is reduced, making it easier to do;
Make behaviors small: It is easier to make behaviors small than to improve skills/acquire tool resources.
When the motivation level is high and more persistent, you can use ways to improve skills or acquire tools, and more generally effective is to make the behavior small.
